Illegal parking fees: GHMC slaps Rs 50K fine on `My Home Tycoon’

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has imposed a fine of Rs.50,000 against ‘My Home Tycoon’ in Begumpet for illegally collecting parking fees.

On March 28, Jeetender Surana - a resident of Secunderabad, visited the My Home Tycoon located in Begumpet to shop and While leaving he was asked to pay a parking fee.

Speaking to NewsMeter he said “I got back home and put up a tweet tagging GHMC. I wanted to bring to light this illegal practice taking place in My Home Tycoon. The tweet blew up and the Central Enforcement Cell contacted me to make a formal complaint on the issue”.


Surana complained through the Central Enforcement Cell app that parking fees were being charged illegally at My Home Tycoon and uploaded the parking receipt.

The CEC app has confirmed that the management of My Home Tycoon has been charging parking fees.




The enforcement vigilance and disaster management (EV&DM) wing of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) fined the complex for collecting parking fees in violation of norms under G.O. MS 63 issued by the state government. The G.O. has restricted the collection of parking fees by commercial establishments.

As per the challan generated by the enforcement cell of GHMC, collecting parking charges from a vehicle owner is a violation of GO 63 dated March 20, 2018. It has been also mentioned that as per building rules, an adequate number of off-street parking spaces will have to be provided by the owners of commercial establishments, malls, and multiplexes to meet the demand generated by their employees and visitors.

Rules for parking fees at shopping malls in Hyderabad

To regulate parking fees in shopping malls and other commercial establishments in Hyderabad, the government has issued the following rules:

- No fee should be collected if the duration of the parking is less than 30 minutes.

- A fee can be collected if the duration of parking is more than 30 minutes. However, if the vehicle owner produces a bill of any amount as proof of having done shopping in the commercial establishment, no fee must be collected for the first hour.

- If the bill or movie ticket of an amount more than the parking fee is produced, no fee must be collected for any duration of the parking.
