Palnadu: About 150 school students were admitted to a hospital with food poisoning after consuming food on Sunday evening. The incident happened at Dr. BR Ambedkar Residential School in Ramakrishna Puram village under Sattenapalli mandal in the Palnadu district.

According to district collectorate Shiv Shankar Lotheti, “On Sunday, the students consumed chicken and brinjal in the afternoon and at night and tomato rice and boiled egg on Monday. On 30 January, around 100 students complained of stomach pain and nausea.”

The students were taken to the nearby Sattenapalli hospital for treatment. They are now out of danger. After receiving the news, parents rushed to the hospital. The collector added, “We collected the food samples and sent them for testing. We have formed a committee to inquire into the incident.”

The preliminary investigation revealed that the students may have suffered indigestion or food poisoning. A detailed report is still awaited.

Similar food poisoning incidents have been reported in residential schools in the state in recent months. Earlier, in November 2022, over 320 students of Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge and Technology (RGUKT), Etcherla in Srikakulam district fell ill due to suspected food poisoning.
