Kurnool: A 55-year-old woman cremated her husband at home after he allegedly suffered a cardiac arrest. The woman, Lalita, used old clothes and books to cremate her husband. The shocking incident happened in Pattikonda town of Kurnool district in Andhra Pradesh on Monday.

Harikrishna Prasad (63), who ran a pharmacy, was bedridden for the last few years. His wife said she was neglected by her two sons. While the elder son works at a private hospital in Kurnool, the younger son is settled in Canada.

The woman was taking care of her husband and the medical shop.

According to Murali Mohan, the circle inspector (CI) of Pathikonda, Lalita said her husband was not keeping well and died Monday early morning. She made the decision to perform his last rites at home as she believed she would not receive any assistance for the cremation.

While the woman used old clothes and books to cremate her husband, the neighbours who saw smoke coming out of the house alerted the police.

According to the woman, their sons did not look after them and came to the house only to demand a share in the property. Afraid that they would fight for property after learning of their father’s death, Lalita did not inform them.

According to the police, the neighbours reported that Lalita’s mental condition was unstable.

The police have registered a case and started an investigation.
