Shanghai: Top celebrities including SS Rajamouli, Anupam Kher, and Anand Mahindra have hailed Indian archer Prathamesh Samadhan Jawkar for winning Gold in Stage 2 of the Archery World Cup.

The competition was held from May 16 to 21. India won two gold and one bronze in the tourney.

While Prathamesh Jawkar won the Individual Men's Compound gold, Vijayawada archer Jyothi Surekha Vennam and her partner Ojas Pravin Deotale clinched the Compound Mixed Team crown at the Archery World Cup Stage 2.

Avneet Kaur bagged the bronze medal in the Individual women's compound.

Teenage Archer beats World no 1

Prathamesh beat world number 1 Mike Schloesser of the Netherlands 149-148 to top the table. En route to the final, Prathamesh Jawkar defeated Indonesia's Dhany Diva Pradana, Korea's Kim Jongho, Martin Damsbo of Denmark, and Choi Yonghee of Korea before securing his gold medal match with a victory over Robin Jaatma of Estonia.

Life coach Sudhir Puthran tweeted: "This is the land where great Warriors like Sri Rama, Arjuna, and others roamed with their Bow & Arrows. This land has completely neglected Archery as a skill. How many of you have heard of a 19-year-old Prathamesh Samadhan Jawkar from India?"

The video was retweeted by Anand Mahindra. He wrote he hadn't heard from him until today but will track him from now on.

SS Rajamouli said, "It's so heartwarming to see Archery being raised in India. What a talent came to light today. Congratulations on winning the gold at the World Cup in Shanghai."

Vijayawada Archer dreams big

Jyothi Surekha Vennam from Vijayawada won gold in the Compound archery event at the World Cup both in the individual 2023 and mixed team 2022, and 2023 events.

Jyothi has now made a strong start to the 2023 World Cup season with three gold medals, including one in the individual section at the Antalya leg.

This is the Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Ojas Pravin Deotale's second successive gold medal for India in the compound mixed team event after they won one in the opening stage of the Archery World Cup 2023 in Antalya recently.

Born in Hyderabad, Jyothi has bagged 98 medals in various national and international competitions. At the age of 4, she entered the Limca Book of Records after crossing the Krishna River three times with a distance of 5 km in three hours, 20 minutes, and six seconds. Jyothi's father is a former Kabaddi player and is now a veterinary doctor in Vijayawada.

Continuing its dream run, India's compound mixed team duo of Deotale and Jyothi earlier shocked heavyweights from Korea to grab successive World Cup gold medals. The pair carried forward its new-found chemistry and shot with composure to pip the top-seeded Korean team 156-155.

"Throughout the World Cup, our coordination and shooting process was very good. And in the final, too, we focused on our shooting process," Jyothi said.

The Vijayawada archer is now dreaming big with the World Archery Championships in Berlin a couple of months away. "World Championships are the most important event for us. And winning the gold medals is a big boost to our confidence. We look to continue the momentum," she added.
