SC transfers Viveka murder case to special CBI court in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: The Supreme Court on Tuesday transferred the trial of the murder of former Andhra Pradesh minister YS Vivekananda Reddy from Andhra Pradesh to a special CBI court in Hyderabad.

The court observed that a "fair trial was unlikely considering the facts and circumstances put across by the petitioners."

The petitioners are Dr. Suneeta Narreddy and her mother Y.S Sowbhagya.

A Bench comprising Justices M.R Shah and M.M Sundresh observed that "Considering the facts and circumstances it cannot be said that the apprehensions of the petitioners that there may not be a fair trial and there may not be independent and fair investigation. The petitioners, the daughter and the wife of the deceased, have a fundamental right to get justice. The trial must be conducted in a fair and legitimate manner."

The case is now shifted to Hyderabad.

Who is Dr. Suneeta Narreddy?

Dr. Suneeta Narreddy is the daughter of YS Vivekananda Reddy and the first cousin of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S Jaganmohan Reddy. Dr. Narreddy is an infectious disease control specialist working with Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad.

Murder of Vivekananda Reddy

YS Vivekananda Reddy was the brother of YS Rajashekar Reddy. He was a member of the 14th Lok Sabha of India and represented the Kadapa constituency of Andhra Pradesh.

Vivekananda Reddy was found dead at his home in Pulivendula on 15 March 2019 under mysterious circumstances. He was brutally stabbed to death.
