Hyderabad: YSR Telangana Party (YSRTP) president Y.S Sharmila's car was towed away by the Panjagutta police on Tuesday with her inside it. Her 'Praja Prasthana padayatra' caravan which was allegedly burnt by TRS workers on Monday was also confiscated.
Sharmila was going towards Pragathi Bhavan at Begumpet to protest when the police towed her vehicle with a crane, with her seated in it, all the way to the SR Nagar police station. Upon reaching the police station, she was taken inside.
Sharmila's caravan was attacked on Monday during her Praja Prasthanam padayatra in Narsampet allegedly in response to her comments about local TRS MLA Peddi Sudarshan Reddy.
The mob broke the glasses of cars belonging to YSR Telangana Party leaders and later burned the caravan being used by Sharmila during the yatra.
At the public meeting in Narsampet on Sunday, Sharmila had criticised the TRS MLA of the constituency for the lack of facilities in the area and said, "If he comes seeking votes again, hit him with broomsticks."
Sharmila was participating in the 223rd day of her padayatra when a group of men, chanting pro-TRS slogans and hailing KCR, reached the place where her caravan was halted and torched it.
Speaking to the media, Sharmila said, "For the past 223 days, I, along with my party leaders and representatives, have been holding a peaceful padayatra to highlight the plight of various sections of people in Telangana. Our rising popularity has jolted Chief Minister KCR and his party men, who want to stop me at any cost. It is highly unfortunate that some police officers are siding with the ruling party and disrupting our efforts to reach the people and raise their issues."
The Praja Prasthanam padayatra has crossed the 3,500-km mark, spreading across 75 Assembly segments in the state. Sharmila has covered 1,863 villages under 208 mandals and 61 municipalities, along with four municipal corporations during the padayatra.
