Hyderabad: In a drunk and drive incident, a Mercedes Benz with five persons including a woman mounted the footpath and hit an electric transformer. The driver and the group abandoned the car and fled. No bystander was injured in the incident.

The group of friends are said to include a software professional and a person working in the USA.

According to K Govardhan Reddy SI of Police PS Jubilee Hills, on April 24, while he and his patrol car-3 staff were patrolling within Jubilee Hills, they received information about a car accident at Road No 36/10, beside Shree Jewellers, Jubilee Hills.

When they reached the spot, they found an empty Mercedes Benz electric car on the footpath that had hit an electric transformer and a wall causing damage to both.

Group left accident site in Uber to hotel

Later, an Uber car driver Abdul Rasheed arrived at the spot and informed the police that five people in the Benz car, including a woman, were all intoxicated at the time of the accident. He said they drove the car recklessly and negligently, resulting in their speeding car ramming the footpath and crashing into to electric transformer.

After the accident, the group booked an Uber to Park Hyatt Hotel, Banjara Hills. The driver Abdul dropped them off at the Hotel and they had left their car keys in his car. Since they were intoxicated, he returned to the accident scene to notify and hand over the car key to authorities.

The police then rushed to the Park Hyatt Hotel where they found the five people. A breath analyser test on four members revealed that they were inebriated. A case has been registered and further investigation is on.
